Happy Tails Day
Friday 10 October 2008

Get behind a great cause and support Happy Tails Day 2008

We're celebrating our second Happy Tails Day and we hope to have as many people as possible wearing plush tails and ears to show they care about animals and support the work of the RSPCA.

This year's Happy Tails Day theme is about enjoying the great outdoors with your best friend. It's no secret that pets make wonderful companions, but they also provide a vital social connection to neighbours and other pet owners in the area. Owning a pet can also increase your physical activity, enjoying better health and fitness.

Zac, our 2008 Happy Tails Day mascot, loves spending time outside lounging on the grass and playing fetch with his favourite tennis ball. Zac is a Jack Russell and represents the many terriers with great personalities available for adoption from RSPCA shelters each year. He's a very happy dog and a perfect model to promote Happy Tails Day.

This year's fundraising merchandise includes an official Happy Tails Day pen, soft toy, lapel pin, wristband and new look plush ears and tails. Zac's colouring of white with brown markings has influenced the look of this year's ears and tails and a very cute soft toy. The colour green is a major feature this year which is bright and fresh, representing the outdoors, as well as our highly recognisable paws in our RSPCA logo.

Happy Tails Day on Friday 10 October coincides with RSPCA Awareness Week (1-8 October). Each year, the RSPCA in Australia cares for around 138,000 stray, injured and abandoned animals and investigates more than 42,000 complaints of cruelty and neglect. The RSPCA receives only 2% from governments nationally each year. As a charity, the RSPCA depends on the support of individuals, businesses and the community to continue its vital work.

If you have any questions or would like to tell us more about your 'Happy Tales' with your pets, please don't hesitate to contact our office by emailing happytailsday@rspca.org.au.
