How you can help
Tail Docking
|
Firstly, never buy a puppy with a docked tail. If you are
thinking of buying a dog please visit your local RSPCA shelter
first.
If you do get a dog from a breeder, make sure that they do not
dock tails. If you are a member of a kennel club or breed
organisation, insist that they do not support tail docking and
that dogs with intact tails are promoted at shows and other
events.
Practices such as tail docking are regulated under state and
territory prevention of cruelty to animals legislation. In order
to bring an end to this painful and unnecessary tradition the
RSPCA needs your help to change the law. In the ACT this has
already happened - tail docking is now banned unless it is carried
out by a veterinary surgeon for therapeutic reasons only.
Please add your voice to those who oppose tail docking and help
the RSPCA ensure that all puppies get to keep their tails. Write
or email now to your State or Territory Minister urging them to
ban tail docking immediately.
If you live in the ACT, you can also support the RSPCA's
campaign by urging the Ministers below to follow your territory's
lead and ban tail docking.
