Livestock Transport

Trucks carrying loads of livestock are a common sight on Australian roads with around 480 million animals transported across the country every year. Some of these journeys can span thousands of kilometres.
Every journey involves a period of food and water deprivation and can cause extreme stress and often physical injury.
National standards and guidelines for transporting animals are in the process of being implemented across the country.
While these standards are a very positive step forward, there are still some major areas of concern to the RSPCA including the lifting and dragging of young animals, the total time that animals are allowed to be off water and the use of electric prodders.
