2019: Animal Welfare priorities for the next Australian Government
With a federal election looming in 2019, the RSPCA Australia has released its animal welfare priorities for the next Australian Government, highlighting the lack of federal leadership in animal welfare, an end to live sheep exports, and banning cosmetics testing on animals as key areas for action.
Regardless of which political party forms the incoming Australian Government, Australia needs strong leadership when it comes to animal welfare. Australians care about animals, and the Government must do more to meet community expectations and protect Australian animals.
The three areas of action outlined by the RSPCA are:
NATIONAL LEADERSHIP
Re-establishing the Australian Government’s leadership role in animal welfare
LIVE EXPORT
Growing meat exports and phasing-out the live export of sheep for slaughter
Cosmetic Testing
Ending animal testing for cosmetic purposes
