What We Do

The RSPCA is a community based charity that works to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.

RSPCA Australia is a Federation of eight independent State and Territory RSPCA bodies called member Societies. RSPCA member Societies do much of the hands on work traditionally associated with the RSPCA such as the operation of shelters and the Inspectorate plus community education and fundraising.

RSPCA Australia is home to a strong science and campaigns team, with a particular focus on farm animal issues. RSPCA Australia is responsible for facilitating national campaigns and events and representing the interests of animal welfare with Government and industry across all areas.

CampaignsCampaigns & Issues

The RSPCA runs national campaigns to raise public awareness about important animal welfare issues and to keep the pressure on the people who have the power to change them.

Be it nationally, state-wide or locally, there's always something happening at your RSPCA.

Approved Farming SchemeApproved Farming Scheme

The RSPCA gives its "Paw of Approval" to eggs and pork that have been produced in a way that meets the RSPCA's high standards for animal welfare. If you see the RSPCA "Paw of Approval" you can be assured that the RSPCA endorses the product and is happy with how the animals are treated.

Policies and SciencePolicies and Science

RSPCA policies are ground firmly in animal welfare science. Opinions and guidance are constantly being sought from RSPCA Australia by governments and decision makers on a whole range of animal welfare issues.

Animal adoptions and sheltersAnimal adoptions and shelters

RSPCA shelters are the public face of the RSPCA, rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming thousands of stray, neglected, abused and unwanted animals every year.

InspectorateInspectorate

RSPCA inspectors are the people on the front line, working hard to fight animal cruelty and neglect in our community. Every year, the RSPCA investigates over 55,000 complaints of offences against animals.

Animal ClinicsAnimal clinics

Many RSPCA shelters have veterinary staff who treat and care for rescued animals. Some also take private patients. Please refer to your local RSPCA for more information.

EducationEducation

Education is vital if we are to have some hope of improving the treatment of animals in Australia. Community education is an important aspect of the RSPCA's work. The RSPCA recently launched an exciting new educational resource called the World of Animal Welfare. RSPCA Australia also supports the education of people studying animal welfare through Scholarships and Essay Prizes.

AwardsAwards

At the RSPCA we love a good news story! And nothing warms our hearts more than hearing tales of the bravery and heroism of both people and animals. The RSPCA recognises these achievements through a national Awards program.

InternationalInternational

The RSPCA is a member of the World Society for Protection of Animals (WSPA). We support WSPA on global animal welfare issues and international campaigns.
